Our Equestrian Team is where the serious learning of both horseback riding skills and life skills occur.
Horseback riding skills are developed to compete successfully in "A" circuit shows. We send a team annually to the Appaloosa National and World shows. Capstone equestrian team members train year around and compete in:
- Western: Showmanship, Equitation, Pleasure, Trail, Western Riding
- English: Hunter in Hand, Equitation, Hunter Under Saddle
- Saddle Seat: Equitation, Pleasure
Weekly equestrian team lessons and monthly overnight clinics allow the
entire team to get together and work in depth on aspects of the horse
show environment. Older children help younger ones, sharing knowledge
and developing leadership. Equestrian team members coach each other,
developing self confidence and a stronger awareness of the details
required for excellence in the horse show arena.
Team Responsibilities
Equestrian team members are expected to take responsibility for
themselves and their horses. On team days and at horse shows they
make sure that their horse is fed and watered and has a clean stall.
Their equipment and show outfits must be complete and horse show-
ready and they must be prepared to enter the arena when their class
is called. Team members are also expected to take care of their horse's
needs before leaving for the day.
It is very rewarding to see how many life skills result naturally from the horse show preparation process:
- Persistent work ethic toward a goal
- Being aware of surroundings, and able to affect them in a positive way
- Self confidence and self respect
