When I'm not riding: |
I like to play tennis and volleyball for school, and spend time with my friends. |
The three most important things I've learned in life from my experience with showing horses
|
-
The most important thing I've learned is commitment. While my friends are sleeping in and staying out late on weekends, I'm riding because I made a commitment to myself and Sarah and know what I need to do in order to reach my goals.
-
Patience is something I'm working on every time I ride. Taking things step by step and being unattached to the result is something you need to have around any live animal, especially horses.
-
Being around a highly competitive group of riders and coach, the ability to accept and want coaching is something showing horses has brought me. So often in my other varsity sports, the other girls don't know how to take criticism and coaching for their benefit. They'll either give an attitude or they lose their self confidence.

How I felt the first time I won a Championship
The first time I won, I was young (9 or 10) so I didn't appreciate it as much as I did when I was 12 or 13. When you win an event that you've practiced hard on and had big obstacles with, there's no better feeling than to win that national championship.
This year in Huntseat Equitation I felt so amazing because that was one event I had struggled with. You feel like you can do anything and accomplish anything.

My Youth World Show experience
The World Show is unlike anything because you're constantly surprising yourself with the things you can accomplish. You push yourself to your limit but come out as a much better rider and a stronger person. |
