The three most important things I've learned in life from my experience with showing horses
|
-
Even in the face of adversity, never give up. People will try to bring you down and want you to give up, but it is amazing what you can accomplish when you persevere.
-
You can't put pressure to win certain classes. You should always try your hardest, but it is up to a judge to decide placings. If you tell yourself that you should win or place well in a certain class it almost always backfires. You can't be attached to results.
-
Even if you aren't confident, fake it. Confident people do better, and sometimes you can even fool yourself.

My Youth World Show experience
It is the most amazing rush. You are beyond tired, stressed, and asked to show to the best of your ability.
You can never manage to be clean and dry for more than 10 minutes.

From a parent's perspective the three most important things my child has gained from showing horses are:
|
-
Level of commitment – They have made many choices in their riding careers that show that they feel this sport deserves 100%. They have given up much, but gained more.
-
Working as a team – Even though they compete individually, they think as a team and cheer on and support each other
-
Built confidence – In a subjective sport, all you can do is your best. This can all be very nerve wracking and takes a lot of courage. Showing has helped them excel in other parts of their lives.

How I felt the first time I won a Championship
My first Championship was in English Showmanship 13 and Under. I couldn't stop smiling. My heart was pounding. I was in complete shock.
